Position Title: Custodian
Job Classification: Facilities & Grounds Employee (Non-Exempt)
Reports to: Director of Facilities, Grounds & Safety & District Lead Custodian
Position Summary: The Custodian ensures that the Facilities and Grounds remain in a safe, clean, orderly condition and assists with planning for school and recreational activities.
Salary/Wage: Negotiable
Anticipated Hours: Monday through Friday 2:00 PM to 10:30 PM, Summer hours 6a - 2:30p
Essential Job Functions:
General Maintenance:
Prepares and carries out preventative maintenance for the building
Assists building principal with facilities needs
Makes minor equipment repairs
Cleans and replace fixtures
Prioritizes safety and maintenance needs and reports on those needs according to established procedures
Replaces and maintains such items as seat backs, window shades, wall maps, and other classroom equipment
Custodial Maintenance:
Maintains high standard of cleanliness throughout the building
Assists in complying with codes and regulations to provide a safe and healthy facility
Cleans restrooms, classrooms, gymnasiums, common spaces, and other areas
Secures building or area on a daily basis or as directed
Cleans and extracts carpets
Sweeps, mops, scrubs, seals, and waxes floors
Responds to emergency situations
Moves equipment and furniture
Grounds Maintenance:
Clears sidewalks, parking lots, and driveways of debris and snow
Professional Responsibilities:
Participates in professional development activities
Provides necessary care and management of school property, including money, equipment, materials, and facilities
Follows District-wide safety and security protocols
Complies with the following requirement: The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the District

Performs other duties as may be assigned
Qualifications
High school diploma
Valid Wisconsin driver's license
Ability to work flexible work hours to accommodate building hours
Ability to operate equipment, including vacuums, auto scrubbers, carpet extractors, swing scrubbers, and other maintenance equipment
Ability to read directions required for work performance
Ability to maintain positive working relationships by communicating and cooperating with colleagues, students, parents, and members of the community
Essential Physical/Mental Requirements:
Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods, up to six hours in an eight-hour day
Ability to perform moderate heavy physical work, frequently lifting up to 50 pounds and/or exerting up to 50 pounds of force to move objects without assistance in indoor and outdoor settings
Ability to reach in all directions and bend/stoop
Ability to stand, walk, lift, carry, push, pull, climb, balance, kneel, stoop, bend, reach, handle, and feel
Ability to communicate effectively on the telephone, in person, and email to provide information and assistance
Ability to move throughout the facilities and from building to building Dexterity and hand/eye coordination necessary to operate computer keyboard and other office equipment such as fax machine, copier, etc.
Hearing ability adequate to participate in numerous conversations throughout the day, both in person and over the telephone
Vision ability that allows individual to read handwritten or typed material and to adjust focus
Ability to complete job activities in an environment where extremely loud noise may be present
Ability to maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and accuracy
Ability to work indoors and outdoors, in all types of weather
