Overview / Responsibilities

Wood is currently recruiting for a Cost Engineer with extensive cost control experience to support our team in Houston, TX. The ideal candidate will have experience in the Oil & Gas industry, specifically related to Brownfield Operations with experience working for an Owner/Operator.

The Cost Engineer is responsible for the development and maintenance of the project budgets, forecasts, trending/change, progress measuring, reports, invoice support and review and analysis as well as providing support and assistance to the client team to maximize cost reporting and efficiency for all Assets. Role is based at BP's Westlake Campus in Houston. Discipline reporting line is through the Production Support Unit. Currently we are considering local candidates only.

The successful candidate will also be responsible for the following:

  • Prepare monthly cost reports, including Value of Work Done (VOWD) / accruals, commitments, and monthly / quarterly / annual variances
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Event Leads, and Project Engineers to ensure cost updates and variances are understood and clearly communicated
  • Work closely with project planners to ensure in-year, multi-year, and full cycle cost phasing and forecasting aligns with the current control schedule
  • Support governance cycle including assisting client with preparing Authorization for Expenditures (AFEs) for work scopes
  • Establish Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) / Cost Breakdown Structure (CBS)
  • Review Contractor cost management and reporting processes, ensuring implementation of Contractor's contractual requirements
  • Facilitate reporting thought quarterly project financial and performance reviews, maintaining transparency against annual spend targets
  • Support for each asset on cost tracking for monthly VOWD input to asset commercial teams
  • Provide analysis and reporting on asset and project costs to support management
  • Comply with all HSSE requirements


Skills / Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in relevant technical or business discipline preferred; however, candidates with relevant industry experience (and no degree) will be considered
• 5+ years industry experience in cost control with prior Owner/Operator experience; prior experience with BP a strong asset
• SAP experience required
• Proficiency in Excel (VLOOKUPs, PivotTables, complex formulas, creating cost curves & other graphs)
• Forecasting, Estimation, and Variance Analysis
• Finance and Accounting (accruals, journal entries, and ad hoc reporting)
• Project Management / Internal Controls knowledge
• Proven ability to collaborate across business units with internal and external stakeholders
• Organization and documentation; updating assumptions and forecasts, maintaining and tracking updates to assumptions and forecasts, maintaining project codes and billing codes
• Detail oriented; maintaining files with appropriate level of detail
• Manage multiple projects in a deadline-driven environment
• Must be US Citizen, or authorized to work lawfully in the US, without sponsorship from Wood.
