Job Overview

Summary

Responsible for all production machine and facility controls at both campuses in Acton MA and responsible to assist and consult for Haartz-Minth (China).

Responsible for designing, debugging and repairing production equipment control systems including Allen-Bradley PLC and PanelView systems, AC/DC drives, load cells, web handling PIDs, temperature control, and other machine control components.
Software including: RSLogix - Allen-Bradley PLC 5, 500 and ControlLogix Series
FactoryTalk View Studio for PanelView Plus Series
Wonderware Software
Responsible for Power distribution maintenance (Transformers, switch gear, Capacitor Bank).

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Engineering

Plans, directs, and coordinates all activities concerned with the electrical and controls design, purchase, construction, modification, installation and maintenance of plant equipment by directing and supporting the activities of the Controls Engineering staff.
Works closely with the Project Engineering department, Electrical and Maintenance departments and well as overseeing outside contractors.
Lead, inspire and mentor senior and junior level engineers.
Capable of the design, writing, and analyzing of PLC and graphics programs to create, change, or debug machine function.
Languages include Ladder Logic, Function Block and Structured Text
Contributes to project work directly through architecture design, electronics design, electromechanical integration, software integration, testing and debugging.
Manage identification and selection of contract staff (contractors, consultants, and outside engineering service companies) as needed.
AutoCAD Electrical experience for drafting and updating machine electrical drawing sets.
Manages in house controls engineering staff to ensure all relevant engineering best practices and standards, safety codes (NFPA 70, 70B and 70E, 79, OSHA), and other federal, state, and local regulations are followed.

Facility

Oversees the controls related maintenance of and improvements to the facility structures, and utilities by working with the facilities manager and maintenance supervisor.

Communication/Leadership

Aligns team agenda with annual operating objectives and effectively communicates cross-functionally throughout all levels of the organization.
Communicates/reports regularly to the Engineering Manager on the status of all controls related aspects of capital equipment and facility projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly manages all employees in the Controls Engineering Department.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
In conjunction with Human Resources, responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and a Master's degree in management or engineering, strongly preferred. 10 years minimum experience working as an engineer and a minimum of 5 years' experience managing an engineering team of Electrical/Controls Engineers. Experience with industrial OSHA requirements and 70E regulations required. Excellent communication skills and expertise in Project Management.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
