Job Overview

Role Summary:

The Continuous Improvement Manager is a key leadership and working manager role responsible for driving and building a culture of continuous improvement by leading others through the change process with professionalism, emotional maturity, courage and consideration. This role will have managerial and tactical responsibility for Lean/TPS immersion and implementation of Strategy Deployment objectives in the Grand Rapids facilities. Responsible for coaching the Leaders of the manufacturing facilities and support departments within their scope, they will "coach by doing", combining tactical application and strategic coaching approaches in deploying system implementation and ensuring adherence to company standards. This role will be responsible for assisting with the development and management of their direct reports. They will assist the Director and Vice President of Operations with the development and implementation of standardized lean systems and tools to advance the lean immersion in partnership with the Corporate Lean Director to ensure adherence to standards and alignment across the Family of Companies.

General Responsibilities

Assess the current state of the Grand Rapids Campus operations and develop future state vision
Work with plant manufacturing managers to develop strategies on how to best achieve business goals and objectives at each facility and implement those solutions.
Create annual CI and cost savings objectives and lead implementation to achieve them throughout each manufacturing area in alignment with future state vision.
Directs, mentors, supervises and develops a high performing team to achieve daily and long term goals
Responsible for development and implementation of 6S and Standard Work processes in each plant and tracking performance to KPI and Strategy Deployment objectives in Plant Mission Centers
Leading the deployment of Lean Manufacturing tools, training and employee engagement to create a continuous improvement culture
Ensuring the success of all Cascade Enterprise Systems (CES) department responsibilities and metrics for new product launches at start of production.
Continuous improvement of the "tools", standards and training for the CES department that are deployed in each manufacturing location.
Works seamlessly with multiple departments including Order Fulfillment, Materials & Inventory Planning Quality, Mfg. Engineering and Process Engineering, etc. to optimize cost and achieve CI objectives.
Leader in data driven root cause problem solving, cost justifications and lean tool usage (e.g. Value Stream Maps, Takt Time Analysis, 6S, Standard Work, Kaizen Events, Pull Systems, etc.) to achieve all safety, quality and production requirements.
Understand Cascade Engineering's Strategy Deployment Process and drive its execution within the facilities

Coaching:

Leads Gemba activities, coaches CES personnel and teams through Strategy Deployment and continuous improvement events and activities
Mission A3, Value Stream Analysis Core Team Development, Rapid Improvement Events (Kaizen), etc.
Directs the training and facilitation of improvement teams
Develops Lean Personnel and Departmental Leaders on their Lean skills matrix and other developmental needs in support of their professional development
Challenges paradigms to guide continuous improvement strategies
Provides support and ongoing feedback for teams and designated process owners

Tactical:

Manage "by doing" the implementation of strategy deployment and continuous improvement efforts alongside process owners
Manages the deployment of lean systems and tools, Plant 6S and Ergonomic scoring process, training, and documentation
Incorporates safety considerations S.T.O.P. observations into continuous improvement planning
Drives Regional Cost Savings Initiatives through Operational Owners
Hands on training as required

Administrative:

Identifies and manages necessary reports, documentation, metrics and information needed to effectively guide the Lean Immersion across the Family of Companies
Owns and manages the standardization of the lean systems and tools e.g. trainings, tools, documents, etc. in adherence to Corporate Lean standards
Supports the development and creation of budgets for the department, and manages within the budget; sets goals, objectives and priorities for the groups assigned
Administers the Cost Savings Program for the Region in partnership with Regional Controllers and Project Owners
Develops the creation of training and methods of evaluating training, coaching, teaching, and facilitation in partnership with the Corporate Lean Director
Creates and delivers presentations at leadership meetings, shift meetings and other occasions as required

Minimum Education, Experience and Core Competency Requirements:

Bachelor's Degree in engineering/business/management or other related field, with 5-8 years relevant experience, OR Associate's degree with 8-10 years relevant experience and supervisory experience across multiple business functions
5-8 years' experience in coaching the implementation of a lean immersion processes with demonstrated competency in lean tools, philosophies, and principles
Demonstrated strong team leadership and team building skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Effective presentation skills
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and motivate employees through interpersonal and lean techniques
Demonstrated team building and development experience
Strong analytical and problem solving skills; able to make simple, meaningful conclusions from complex data, and a successful history of problem solving
Demonstrated success in meeting goals
Self-motivated and able to work independently
Must be willing to develop a strong understanding of lean concepts and have the aptitude to build a deep understanding and ability to apply these concepts through Lean tools

Preferred Education, Experience and Core Competency Requirements:

BS in Industrial Engineering or equivalent with 5-10 years of leadership experience
Knowledge of injection molding manufacturing and processing principles
Working knowledge of budgets and financial statements for use in analysis and utilization of financial data
