Job Description:
The National Airspace Systems Integration Support (NISC) program at Leidos is seeking a Civil Engineer to provide support to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) located in Des Plaines, IL. The FAA's Engineering Services Department serves to protect, maintain, and modernize the facilities and equipment that form the backbone of the safest and most complex airspace system in the world. This includes over 400 airport traffic control towers, hundreds of radar and communications facilities, and a complex network of thousands of sites and more than 71,000 pieces of equipment that allow pilots to navigate, stay aware of changing weather conditions, and keep in constant contact with ground-based air traffic controllers. On average, about 50,000 flights carrying close to 2 million people use the National Airspace System ( NAS) every day.
The ideal candidate will support the daily operations of the FAA Central Service Area (CSA) Engineering Services Team working with highly trained professionals based in more than 80 locations across the country. These dedicated men and women specialize in a wide variety of fields, including mechanical, civil, and electrical engineering; electronics; power systems; planning; communications; and environmental and occupational health. By updating existing technologies and integrating new ones into a wide variety of legacy systems and components, we keep the NAS and its many systems safe, efficient, and on the cutting edge of innovation and change.
Duties include the following:
- General engineering review and design for projects on and off airport grounds.
- Design of FAA buildings, equipment shelters, communication centers, access roads.
- Review of other designs of FAA buildings, equipment shelters, communication centers, access roads.
- Construction oversight of FAA buildings, equipment shelters, communication centers, access roads.
- Bachelors' Degree in Engineering, preferably Civil Engineering and 4 - 8 years of prior relevant experience or Masters with 2 - 6 years of prior relevant experience or equivalent.
- Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
- Prior FAA experience desired.
- Knowledge/Experience of Airports desired.
Pay Range $65,000.00 - $100,000.00 - $135,000.00
