To learn more about Al-Terra Engineering, you can check out our website here: We are looking for a Civil Design Technologist to support the Urban Renewal team with a focus on neighborhood renewal in the City of Edmonton. You will be part and work collaboratively within the team to support the development and delivery of impactful projects. This is a technical role where you will be responsible for developing design drawings throughout the project lifecycle from concept design to post-construction (as-builts) using Autodesk applications such as AutoCAD and Civil3D. You will also be responsible for completing field designs during the delivery of neighborhood renewal projects. As a designer, you will collaborate with project managers, technical leads and other project team members to complete deliverables on time and on budget. You may participate in client meetings as required to realize project objectives. You will play a key role in developing and delivering neighborhood renewal projects that rehabilitate and renew aging infrastructure such as roads, walkways, curbs, and gutters. Neighborhood renewal projects may also require some modification to drainage infrastructure, addition of LID features, open/park space development, placement of wayfinding signage and other place-making improvements for the communities we serve. Additionally, you may be required to support the Urban Transportation team to develop and deliver transportation project deliverables. Specifically, you will: Review existing site conditions to identify missing infrastructure, opportunities for improvements, and challenges to implementing possible design solutions (such as grading, private landscaping, trees, and utility conflicts) Evaluate and recommend possible design solutions Catalog, combine and prepare base plan information ahead of design and drafting activities Prepare Civil 3D models of the existing neighbourhoods using LiDAR data, city base information, and survey data Apply City of Edmonton and other jurisdiction's drawing standards, as necessary Prepare design drawings, cost estimates, and quantity takeoffs Utilize Microsoft Excel and AutoCAD Civil 3D to design and prepare grade sheets and layout information for surveyors Create drawings for design updates during construction Develop field designs with the construction teams to ensure proper tie-in to existing infrastructure, and complete redesigns when required Use as-built survey and other construction information to create as-built drawings Assist in preparing written design reports Occasionally survey or visit site, as required The best in this role will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, they will be self-motivated, collaborative, and have an eye for detail. They will be adaptable, and able to help support the team with multiple projects all at different phases of the project life cycle with competing deadlines and priorities. The Details This is a full-time, permanent position. You'll work in the Edmonton office, Monday to Friday with some site/field visits.
