Heavy Duty Tow Operator

Position Overview:

The primary function of the Heavy-Duty Tow Operator is to drive a standard wrecker, flat bed, heavy duty flat bed, medium duty flat bed, or heavy-duty wrecker in order to provide towing and road side assistance for minor mechanical repairs such as batteries and tires. Compliance with all DOT, Company and Safety Policies, procedures and practices are required at all times.

Essential Job Functions:

Ability to operate all vehicles assigned to them.
Maneuver trucks into loading and unloading positions, checking that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned.
Load cargo as instructed at designed location. Secure all cargo for safe transport.
Maintain logs of hours and of vehicles service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations.
Work with dispatch to calculate out the most efficient and effective driving routes.
Inform dispatch and safety of any DOT fines, citations or any other relevant issues.
Communication with Dispatch in regards to any potential customer issues such as; complaints, spills, leaks, incidents, accidents, injuries and vehicle issues.
Communicate with maintenance in regards to any vehicle issues or needs and report any issues immediately.
Keep you truck clean and orderly at all times.
Responsible for general maintenance of truck, including but not limited to: checking oil and fuel levels.
Complete all "pre-trip" requirements before each truck run and "post-trip" requirement at the end of each shift.
Handle exposure to heavy traffic, dust, fumes, high and low temperatures, slippery surfaces, low-lighted work areas and high noise levels and handle high levels of stress.
May be required to drive in hazardous conditions, including weather, tight quarters, and inner-city locations.
Ability to push 96 pounds, lift 63 pounds, pull 130 pounds and climb ladder with a minimum of 3 rungs regularly.
Ability to read and navigate road maps and GPS systems and communicate via written orders and instructions.
Follow company quality, safety and environmental guidelines as well as employee handbook policies.
Regular and reliable attendance.
Good interpersonal skills. Demonstrate professionalism; be courteous and friendly to customers at all times.
Perform any other duties as may be assigned and operate in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.

Skills and Qualifications:

Valid CDL class A license is required. Hazmat endorsement is preferred.
3+ years truck driving experience and 1+ experience operating equipment.
Pass pre-employment physical, drug screen, and 7-year background check.
