Position Summary Responsible for completing company facility maintenance and construction projects safely within established time frames; ensuring efficient and safe utilization of space; producing required cabinetry and furnishings; replacing windows as needed; and servicing, installing and maintaining doors, door hardware, garage doors and access management systems by performing the following duties: Essential Duties & Responsibilities Abide by Company Safety Program and Policies, while performing duties safely. Estimate time, materials, supplies and equipment for a project. Keep records of labor and materials. Coordinates with supervisor, management and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work order efficiently. Install, alter and repair doors, window sashes, cabinets, counter tops, and partitions; layout and install metal studs for walls and partitions; install and tape drywall; replace and repair office furniture, handrails, ramps and other structures. Plan and prioritize jobs to ensure deadlines are met and emergencies are handled appropriately. Coordinates the services and activities of outside contractors as assigned for the purpose of ensuring that contracted work is completed in a safe, effective and timely manner that meet standards and objectives. Performs a wide variety of semi- skilled/skilled carpentry related activities for the purpose of ensuring that maintenance issues are resolved, and projects are completed in a safe, effective and timely manner. Researches new products, techniques, for the purpose of previewing products to provide recommendations regarding applications and purchases. Assure SDS forms are maintained and up to date for accurate information and immediate review. Complete daily maintenance and repair logs. Maintains tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring the availability of item in safe operating condition. Creates new or duplicate keys as assigned for the purpose of ensuring conformance to master key system and ensuring safety and security of the facilities. Ability to multitask. Understanding of the various building types and construction methods (steel frame, masonry, pre-cast building, pre-engineered metal building, wood framed building, etc.). Ability to read and understand plans and specifications. Understands and implements safety procedures and practices. Knowledge of the permitting process, building codes, regulations and inspections. Plan, organize and direct activities concerned with the maintenance of structures, facilities, and systems. Coordinates subcontractors. Inspect self-performed and subcontractor work for quality and correct construction methods (quality control). Site layout and use of layout instruments. Use of basic hand tools and basic power tools. Ability to operate basic equipment (forklift, skid loader, water pumps, grinders, bobcat attachments, tamps, lifts). Finish carpentry skills. Building framing skills. Other duties as assigned. - High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
- Requires a vocational/technical diploma; or 2-3 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Must processes specific knowledge-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include carpentry methods and processes; codes/laws/rules/regulations/policies; current and emerging carpentry methods; and safety practices.
- Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals and blueprints consistent with the duties of this position.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, staff and the general public consistent with the duties of this position.
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders, SDS sheets and the company safety manual.
- Ability to understand work direction, yet work independently.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists consistent with the duties of this position.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form consistent with the duties of this position.
- Must be able to distinguish between safe and unsafe conditions.
- Must be able to pass respiratory function test for working in confined areas.
- Valid NE driver s license and be insurable under the company s insurance plan.
- The incumbent is expected to work for completeness and workmanship, and is expected to complete the assignment without detailed craft instruction.
- Must have a good sense of detail and work to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Ability to operate hand tools.
- Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate.
- Must be able to adapt to changing work priorities.
- Knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in heavy construction, office remodels, building envelop, roofing.
- Knowledge of various building types and construction methods.
- Knowledge of first aid and applicable safety precautions.
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform strenuous physical labor under adverse field conditions.
- Ability to work safely around heavy equipment in operation.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to use small equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
