ROCKFORD BOARD OF EDUCATION JOB DESCRIPTION Job Title: Carpenter ______________________________________________________________________ JOB CODE: 5688 Department: Operations/Facilities Supervisor: Foreman- Maintenance Manager Date: April 7, 2017 Status: Non-Exempt ______________________________________________________________________ PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Under specific direction of the foreman, performs carpentry duties necessary to maintain district facilities; using standard carpentry tools, power and battery-driven woodworking & metalworking machinery & equipment. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance is an essential function of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position. Ensures that all actions are in concert with the Board policies as well as the mission statement, beliefs, objectives and parameters found in the Board's strategic plan. Carries out such additional duties as required or as conditions necessitate. Performs general carpentry repair, construction, welding and remodeling work. Constructs, repairs, installs and maintains doors, floors, windows, partitions, roofs, ceilings and walls. Installs and repairs lock and key systems; replaces broken, worn or damaged panic bars and hardware. Constructs, builds, installs and repairs; shelving, computer tables, countertops, closets, screens and screen doors, windows and lunch tables; also cuts, planes and joints lumber. Operates saws, jointers, planers, mortising machines, sanders, drill presses, lathes, welders, electric and battery powered tools, vertical and aerial lifts and other equipment necessary to perform required duties. Requirements for work: Demonstrates working knowledge of the standard carpentry practices, processes, materials and tools of the trade including: Skilled in the use of saws, squares, rulers, planes, hammers, chisels, screwdrivers, chalk lines, transit, laser levels, and electric and battery powered hand tools. Skilled in the use of power driven machinery such as table and band saws, drill presses, lathes, jointers and shapers. Demonstrates ability to read, interpret and work from drawings, plans an blueprints. Demonstrates working knowledge of occupational hazards, precautionary, and safety measures. Demonstrates working knowledge of different building materials and effect of climatic conditions on building materials. Demonstrates ability of plan, layout and construct carpentry work of average difficulty and train and direct unskilled workers Demonstrates physical strength sufficient to perform heavy manual tasks. Maintains a good attendance record. Shall assume any other duties as may be delegated by his/her supervisor. Furthermore, the supervisor shall make any adjustments in the scope of responsibilities, as outlined above, which will be in the best interest of the school district. NON- ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Participates in job training and professional growth opportunities in order to enhance ability to perform the essential functions of the job. Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bilingual as required by location. EDUCATION/TRAINING: High School diploma or G. E. D. from an accredited institution KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Two years experience as a carpenter (commercial carpenter preferred,) and four years of apprenticeship or equivalent training and experience within the trade LENGTH OF WORK: 12 months WORKING CONDITIONS: Moderate in-district travel as well as intermittent in-state travel. Intermittent prolonged and irregular hours of work.
