Job Overview

The Building Maintenance Technician installs, repairs, and maintains the physical plant, machinery, and mechanical equipment such as engines, motors, pneumatic tools, HVAC, electrical systems, plumbing systems, fire sprinkler systems, dock doors, metal buildings, wooden structures, finishes, and associated equipment by performing the following duties.

You Will

  • Repair and maintain electrical equipment, plumbing systems, HVAC equipment, and all other mechanical systems required to maintain the structures of the main plant and warehouses

  • Construct and repair metal buildings and wooden structures including but not limited to structural and framing, mechanical systems, and finishes

  • Observe mechanical devices in operation and trouble shoots to locate causes of trouble

  • Dismantle devices to gain access to and remove defective parts

  • Examine form and texture of parts to detect imperfections. Inspects used parts to determine root cause of failure

  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments

  • Repair or replace defective parts. Installs special functional and structural parts in devices and systems

  • Lubricate and clean parts and operating equipment

  • Start devices to test their performance

  • Set up and operate shop tools and hand tools such as a drill press, grinder, saws, portable drills, and other metalworking and woodworking tools to make and repair parts

  • Initiate work orders for parts and systems

You Have

  • Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Experience in construction or maintenance in a fast-paced environment

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, blueprints, working drawings, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence

  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization

  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as algebra and the fundamentals of plane and solid geometry

  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form

  • Ability to solve problems involving several variables in standardized situations

  • Ability to work toward a time oriented goal in a situation that requires both individual initiative and teamwork

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs weights, travel up and down stairs and ladders, work at heights in lift equipment or on the roof

  • Willingness to train for new skill sets

  • Experience with skilled trade work including carpentry, plumbing, or welding is an advantage

  • Must be able to perform all of these duties while following all safety requirements of the law as well as all safety requirements mandated by Plastipak Packaging and its management
