The Student Union at UC Berkeley is looking to hire a
part-time barista for our coffee shop, Goldie's!
The ASUC Student Union is UC Berkeley's campus "living room," offering everything from co-curricular opportunities to fun, creative activities. It serves all students and seeks to create an inclusive campus community, thereby enhancing the student experience at UC Berkeley. The Student Union is opening it's very own coffee shop in a well-trafficked area of campus. We are seeking three baristas to help us run our shop by creating specialty beverages for customers and serving up good cheer with positive customer service.
Hours: 18 hour/week
Timetable: 45 weeks/year
Schedule: Monday - Friday
DUTIES INCLUDE:
Running a point-of-sale system. Accurately handle cash and credit card payments, following appropriate cash-handling procedures.
Preparing and serving hot and cold drinks as needed. Prepares and sells coffee drinks by following prescribed recipes and preparation techniques for coffee drinks, such as, espresso, frappe, café latte and cappuccino.
Set-up, prepare, replenish, and distribute food products, beverages, and supplies in coffee shop to ensure availability in a timely manner to meet customer demand. Maintains inventories by replenishing coffee bean supply; stocking coffee brewing equipment; maintaining supplies, pastries, and condiments for coffee bar.
Serve, plate, and package food using portion control techniques, resulting in an appealing final product. Follow basic principles of safety and sanitation in food service.
Knowledgeable about beverages and food being served, including allergens, ingredients.
Establish and maintain positive relations with our customers. Listen, and if possible, resolve customers' needs and report them to the manager and/or supervisor. Interact enthusiastically and pleasantly with customers and co-workers to ensure a positive interaction and outcome in every interaction. Responsible for practicing good stewardship with university and customer resources.
Clean equipment, cutlery, utensils, work tables, shelves, storage racks, cutting boards and sinks in the main food production areas.
Maintain cleanliness of all work area, including sweeping, mopping, wiping surfaces. Remove and properly dispose of trash, compost, and recyclable materials.
Immediately resolve or report spills, damages, defects, and other issues to maintain safety and sanitation of the facility.
Ensure all operational areas are clean and organized in a timely manner to meet customer demand.
Clean and wash soiled dishware and equipment using correct procedures of safety and sanitation. Organize and store clean dishware into proper transporting equipment.
YOUR KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
Required:
Beverage preparation experience.
Cashier/cash handling experience.
Customer service experience.
Experience following directions related to job responsibilities
Demonstrated ability to direct the work of others.
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English and follow oral/written instructions.
Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Ability to operate and maintain restaurant food service equipment.
Able to complete fingerprinting and background check.
Preferred:
Retail food service experience.
ServSafe or Food Service Handler Certification.
