In the Aviation Support INSURV Inspection Assessor role, you will play an integral role in the readiness mission! Assessors will conduct material inspections for suitability of active Fleet units for further service, including shipboard systems, as well as equipment that may be installed in all US Navy afloat assets, as an integral member of the Board of Inspection and Survey (INSURV) inspection team. This position is contingent upon contract award. What you will do: + Perform inspections and observe operations of multiple ship systems and components, evaluate system performance, assess equipment material condition, record observations of identified discrepancies accurately and concisely, in support of INSURV inspections and surveys to determine fitness for further service. + Conduct material inspections and surveys of ships and service craft to determine the material readiness of vessels. + Conduct environmental protection and NAVOSH oversight inspection of naval vessels, including equipment, program compliance, and training. + Prepare for inspection by reviewing the most current assigned INSURV inspection guide(s), the ships equipment configuration, and preventive maintenance system (PMS). + Submit timely, accurate, and candid assessment findings. + Considered subject matter expert in technical specialty. May work directly with customer or customer representatives, attend meetings and deploy for special projects. + Ability to manage, oversee, schedule and assign tasks to one or more multiple jobs. + Analyzes and evaluates products and related performance. + Maintains effective customer communications and relations. + May provide onsite training of customer support personnel. What you must have: + High School education, or Trade School or equivalent, and 8 years of related experience, to include specific systems expertise. Prefer technical/professional certifications. + Experience in the Aviation Support Department to include working with Stabilized Glide Slope Indicator (SGSI), Advanced SGSI and Horizon Reference Set (HRS); Recovery Assist and Traversing (RAST) System. + Navy or Maritime experience or equivalent technical expertise (inspection task driven) for systems inspecting in the applicable department and functional area. + Proficiency in inspecting for material condition and readiness in the applicable department and functional area. + Working knowledge of the Navy Material Maintenance Management (3M) and the Planned Maintenance System (PMS), Joint Fleet Maintenance Manual (JFFM) and understanding of technical documentation (manuals, NAVSEA Drawings, class advisories etc.) for systems being inspected the applicable department and functional area assigned. + Working knowledge of Navy inspection standards and references (GSO, JFMM, NSTMs, Tech Manuals, MRCs and applicable NAVSEA, OPNAV, NAVSUP guidelines, etc.) for Material Inspection (MI) and Trials (AT/FCT). + Working knowledge of DoD document classification standards. + Must be able to obtain and maintain an active DOD Secret security clearance. + Must be a U.S. Citizen. + Must have a passport and be willing to travel 26 - 50% of the year to CONUS/OCONUS locations. Preferred: Bonus points for... + Fifteen (15) years of experience in the Navy or supporting Navy Surface Ships and Submarines. + Previous technical services as an inspector reviewing testing, test plan generation and inspection and assessment procedures for in-service U.S. Navy ships, crafts, MSC, and other government-owned ships, e.g., U.S. Navy Board of Inspection and Survey, Afloat Training Group, NAVSEA ISEA, IRAT, TMIT, TYCOM and Readiness Squadron Assessment Team, etc. + Certified Master Training Specialist. Physical Requirements Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 30 lbs. Able to work on and climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments, aboard ships, in shipyards,under industrial conditions and in confined spaces. Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat, humidity, noise and dirty conditions, working aloft or over the sides of vessels. May ride ships at sea for extended periods. May require wearing a respirator. Travel may be required within and outside of the continental United States.
