Position Overview:
Novelis - Guthrie, KY is seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to join Novelis for our recently announced expansion/greenfield start-up Recycle Center in Guthrie, KY. The Automation Engineer is responsible for managing systems engineering in automation and computer systems to achieve the Manufacturing Unit's safety, quality, and cost objectives.

Responsibilities:
Maintenance of an automation cluster and application including, server, storage, and virtual environment
Maintain backup strategy of all automation devices for data recovery
Application of mature engineering knowledge in planning and conducting projects having a scope for independent accomplishment and coordination of responsible assignments
Responsible for the deployment of windows updates on all automation devices on a bi-annually basis
Work closely with IT on firewall rules implementation
Application of state-of-the-art technology and techniques to resolve complex engineering problems
Performs special study programs involving technical data of a complex nature
Support manufacturing by working closely with the Operations, Engineering, and Process Groups
Work closely with all suppliers to ensure they follow Novelis network security requirements while accessing automation systems
Set up and maintained work procedures and troubleshooting processes for automation systems
Provide operator, engineers, and maintenance training programs
Must be willing to keep current with the ever-changing technology, balancing it with the needs of the operations to bring forth improvements in process control, process automation, and process management systems and methods
Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Computer Science or engineering discipline relevant to automation application or networking
Five years of manufacturing experience preferred
Strong communication skills required
Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Understanding of cluster architecture included TCP/IP networks
Experience in Cisco server management and virtualization: Preferably VMware
Experience on OPC such as Kepware.
Experience in building client/server applications HMI/SCADA systems preferred WinCC
Experience in multi-threaded applications development
Experience in Windows operating system management and configuration as it pertains to a networked manufacturing environment
Experience with SQL programming and relational databases
Experience in software development with Microsoft Visual Studio / Development tools and C# or VB.Net programming is a plus
Experience in PLC systems such as Siemens TIA Portal is a plus
