Job Description:


L3Harris Open Water Power seeks a Chemical Engineering Assoc Manager with a broad background in battery development. As the R&D team manager, responsibilities include people management activities as well as organizational elements such as tasking, resource planning, and hiring. The R&D manager provides technical input as appropriate, but leans heavily on the experience of the team, in particular more tenured members and PhDs, to guide the technical approach and strategy for this core capability of the OWP site.


Qualifications


  • Bachelor's Degree and minimum 6 years prior related experience. Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • Chemical engineering, chemistry, physics or materials science, degree from an accredited college or University required.
  • Assess and support legacy product lines and customers.
  • US DoD Security Clearance or ability to obtain a US DoD security clearance Required.
  • Proven experience with leading technology development, including setting technical priorities, guiding research strategy, and understanding the relationship between fundamental research, iterative process development, prototyping and product development.
  • Experience managing people working in a lab environment: strong focus on best lab practices and data analysis, familiarity with scientific instrumentation, promoting a culture of safety across the site.
  • Passion for mentoring engineers at different stages of their career development as well as providing technical expertise for guiding their projects from concept to delivery.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate information with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Experience in the development of plans schedules and estimates with Earned Value Management techniques.
  • Experience developing technical, and financial, proposal estimates with strong basis of justification.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Strong writing, presentation and oral communication skills.
  • Experience managing engineering teams developing nascent battery technologies.
  • Hands-on experience performing electrochemical experiments.
  • Strong experience designing fundamental electrochemical experiments, performing rigorous. data analysis and integrating those results with mechanical, electrical and firmware engineering teams.
  • Knowledge of battery system architectures and systems engineering aspects of battery design.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously; possesses strong organization and prioritization skills.
  • Strong facilitator to design, lead organizational improvements and track to completion.
  • Experience producing executive summaries and metrics for progress reporting and to communicate opportunities/focus areas.
  • Advanced degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry preferred.
