BHP's Jansen Potash Project located approximately 140 km east of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan is BHP's first and most advanced potash project. Jansen will add diversity and a Canadian presence to BHP's global portfolio. Jansen's large resource endowment provides the opportunity to develop it in stages, with anticipated initial capacity of 4.35 Mtpa. The BHP Board has recently sanctioned Jansen Project (Stage 1), with a US $5.7 billion investment. The project is now entering the construction phase, with the first potash expected in 2027.
Purpose
Reporting to the Head of Mining Delivery, the Area Project Manager Mining has single point accountability for the delivery of scope, budget and schedule for the Mining Development and Mining Infrastructure contracts.
About the Role
In this role, you will:
Hold accountability for the delivery of all phases of the underground packages, from engineering to final commissioning and handover working within a Functional matrix structure
Hold accountability for establishing a strong HSE culture with the ability to influence and motivate HSE performance
Be responsible for coordination and alignment across Jansen Stage 1 Mining Functions and BHP Functions, such as Engineering, Contracts & Procurement, Project Controls, Construction, Commissioning, Mine Planning and Technical
Ensure that scope, cost, and schedule forecasts remain within approved budgets and follow change management and response planning for deviations
Own the Development Contract and Underground Construction Contract, and hold direct accountability for contractor mobilization and completing all pre-planning and integration activities
Enable contract execution by the Construction Function by defining the key performance indicators and performance parameters
Ensure all critical free-issue equipment packages are awarded and released meeting Required Onsite (ROS) dates
Ensure that the short-range mine design is well defined, planned and executed across all disciplines
Transition and hand over mining development to BHP Operations
Be responsible for risk management including the identification and application of critical controls
Drive compliance and adherence to the project digital strategies for the underground scope
Work effectively with and lead a large team to embed detailed planning and readiness and drive continuous improvement
Foster an inclusive environment within BHP charter values
Work Location
Downtown, Saskatoon; 40 hours per week, parking is provided on-site. This role will require regular travel to the Jansen Mine Site located in Leroy, SK.
About You
Bachelor of Engineering (Mining, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering) or equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience
Significant experience within underground mining or a related industry with particular emphasis on project delivery and project management
Experience in Potash mine development and Potash mine construction is a benefit
Working knowledge of engineering, contracts and procurement, construction, commissioning, project controls, HSE, and risk multi-discipline workflows and interactions in large capital projects
Strong written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders including functional managers and discipline leads on the project, BHP business units, vendors, and contractors
Leadership within a Functional matrix model and understanding of Area Management's accountability to enable delivery by Construction, and effective delegation and management
