Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:


The Area Environmental Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Environmental Compliance Specialist to drive environmental compliance within the business unit. This position is responsible for assisting the Environmental Compliance Specialist in the development and deployment of policies and programs to various projects nationwide. They will ensure that the site SWPPP inspectors are adequately trained, supported and possess the necessary resources to perform effectively and efficiently.


This position is primarily focused on the implementation of the Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) at project sites. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC); Threatened and Endangered species implementation, Air Permitting implementation, recycling and waste disposal and sustainability innovation at project sites.


They must have the ability to listen and build relationships with the project operations teams as well as client representatives. This position requires the capability of being notified and able to travel to a project in a moment's notice. The Area Environmental Coordinator will regularly audit internal policies and procedures and make recommendations to the Sr. Environmental Engineer, Site Managers, and Environmental Compliance Specialist.

This position will be remotely based with the capability to travel and work on the project weekly.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Area Environmental Coordinator will support all environmental related aspects of multiple projects, as required by federal, state, and local regulations during both the pre-construction and construction phase of solar projects. The primary focus of the position is SWPPP compliance including the ability to modify BMPs as needed based on changing site conditions. Typical responsibilities include:

  • Regular visits to projects to oversee and ensure that the site SWPPP inspectors are adequately supported, and that the business units' Environmental program is effectively communicated, understood, and followed.
  • Regular Stormwater support at assigned projects and communicate the findings to the Site Manager, site SWPPP inspectors, and Environmental Compliance Specialist. Assist in the implementation of the corrective actions identified in the audit.
  • Assist in conducting and /or scheduling of training at projects.
  • Works with site managers to monitor project SWPPP budget and assist operations in the development of solutions to prevent cost overruns.
  • Direct and/or assist with site SWPPP inspector to ensure that the required inspections and reports are completed in a timely and concise manner.
  • Additional tasks and trainings as assigned by the Environmental Compliance Specialist or the Sr. Environmental Engineer.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:


  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science/Engineering or related degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
  • Minimum 3 years of prior stormwater experience and stormwater training such as CISEC, CQIS, QPSWPPP, or CSI-Construction.
  • Minimum 5 years progressive environmental experience.
  • Valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • HAZWOPER 40-hour or ability to obtain
  • Extensive travel is required.

REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Interpersonal skills - Ability to present information to a small group of employees or sub-contractors.
  • Effective communication skills (oral, written, listening, presentation) to effectively work with subcontractors and employees
  • Computer literacy. This does not include knowledge of all software to be used, but the ability to learn to use efficiently the software which is in use. Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Visio).
  • Organization skills. Scheduling, planning and prioritization.
  • Intermediate construction drawing knowledge. Knowledge of drawing layouts, references, notes, and good practices associated with producing and reading construction drawings.
  • Ability to follow safety rules without cutting corners. To understand the intent of safety rules, not blindly adhering to the literal words of the rule.
