Position Summary Under the Activity Leader / Director, this position performs reasonable work at The Salvation Army, Riverside Corps site relating to helping with planning, organizing, and the implementing of curriculum and other activities for our Summer Day Camp program participants. Essential Functions + Under the guidance of the Activity Leader / Director help to supervise and monitor children and activity areas during on and off-site programs. + Helps lead activities and provide instruction of program participants. + Helps implement the day's activities according to program curriculum. + Maintains discipline and reinforces appropriate standards of behavior among the participants. + Participates in preparing of snack, maintenance and inventory of program supplies and equipment. + Assists with program administration requirements as requested by activity leader/Director. + Interacts positively with parents and Personnel; refers questions and concerns as appropriate. + Maintains a safe and healthy program environment by participating in facility maintenance duties, including cleaning of facility, preparing maintenance repair notice of potential hazards when immediate corrections are not possible. + Attend all staff meetings and training sessions. + Perform other duties as assigned. Working Conditions Ability to walk, stand, bend squat climb, kneel and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis. Ability to be able to lift up to 50lbs. Ability to grasp, push, pull objects such as file cabinet drawers and reach overhead. Ability to operate computer, fax and telephone. Minimum Qualifications + Must be 18 years of age or older + Minimum High School graduate or equivalent + Minimum six months experience in childcare work (volunteer or paid) + Must be able to read, write and communicate well in English + Bilingual in English/Spanish, helpful + Tuberculosis test clearance + Must have CPR & First Aid Certification Skills, Knowledge & Abilities + Knowledge of Child Development/Child Care issues + Knowledge of appropriate disciplinary techniques + Knowledge in common recreational and social needs of school age children + Help in the development and the implementation of a variety of age - appropriate recreational activities as outlined by activity leader/Director + Understand and adhere to policies and programs; enforces rules and procedures + Work in cooperation with others in a team approach + Communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing (bi-lingual in Spanish a plus) + Support and carry out the mission, goals and objectives of The Salvation Army Riverside Corps- Kids Café Center Qualifications Education Preferred + High School or Equivalent or better Equal Opportunity Employer/Protected Veterans/Individuals with Disabilities The contractor will not discharge or in any other manner discriminate against employees or applicants because they have inquired about, discussed, or disclosed their own pay or the pay of another employee or applicant.
