The Nuclear Technician is an entry level position with numerous opportunities for advancement into skilled labor careers such as Apprentice and Journeyman Mechanic, Apprentice and Journeyman Electrician, and System Operator in Training and System Operator. Health Physics Technician or Chemistry Technician careers are additional advancement opportunities with a related four year degree. In addition, many other opportunities exist within Southern Nuclear and other parts of Southern Company. Growth and advancement is an expectation of the Nuclear Technician.
As a Nuclear Technician at Plant Vogtle near Augusta, Georgia, you will provide a variety of site support work contributing to the safe and reliable operation and maintenance of the nuclear facility. Responsibilities may include decontamination activities; packaging radwaste; operating forklifts, heavy machinery and vehicles; and application of coatings. Other responsibilities may include emergency response participation and other interior or exterior manual labor or routine tasks as assigned.
Navy Nuclear experience strongly desired.
Starting rate of pay is $16.063/hr.

- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2-year technical/science degree preferred (advancement into a Chemistry Technician or HP Technician may require a 4 year science degree)
- Must be trainable and willing to develop career.
- Valid driver's license is required.
- Must be respirator qualifiable.
- Must possess oral and written communication skills.
- Strong safety awareness and history of adherence to safety practices.
- Work environment may include working in adverse conditions such as poor weather and hot and cold temperatures, and at elevations.
- Occasional after hours work including evenings, night, weekends and holidays is required
- Successful qualification on POSS/MASS pre-employment assessments.
